Bad breath that does not go away no matter how much you brush can affect a person’s personality and social life. Scientifically called halitosis, this condition is not only caused by not keeping the mouth clean, but also by some other health problems inside the body. Here are the 5 main scientific reasons behind bad breath:

Bad bacteria in the mouth and lack of saliva (Dry Mouth): 80 percent of the cause of bad breath is hidden inside the mouth. When our mouth is dry (Dry mouth or Xerostomia), bad breath becomes pungent. Saliva has the natural ability to cleanse the mouth and kill bacteria. However, due to the decrease in saliva production during sleep, bad breath occurs when we wake up in the morning. During this time, anaerobic bacteria in the mouth break down food debris and release volatile sulfur compounds (VSC). This is the cause of bad breath.

Poor oral hygiene and tooth decay: Not brushing your teeth properly twice a day and not cleaning your tongue can cause bad breath to a large extent. Bacteria grow on the food debris trapped between the teeth and form ‘plaque’. This leads to tooth decay and pus in the gums (periodontitis). This pus and bacteria can cause a persistent bad breath.

Tonsil stones and infections: Small pores can form in the tonsils on both sides of the throat. The food debris we eat, bad cells in the mouth, and calcium accumulate in these pores and form small stones. These are called tonsil stones. The bacteria that build up in these stones can cause severe bad breath.

Acidity and indigestion (GERD / Acid Reflux): Bad breath can also be caused by stomach problems. In people with chronic acidity or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), stomach acid and the smell of half-digested food can come up through the esophagus. In addition, H. pylori bacterial infection in the stomach can also cause bad breath.

Diabetes and Sinusitis (Systemic Diseases): In people with chronic nasal congestion and sinusitis, mucus that flows down the throat (Post-nasal drip) can cause bad breath. Also, in people with uncontrolled diabetes (Diabetes), ketones are produced when the body burns fat for energy due to lack of insulin. When this is released through the breath, it can produce a distinctive odor similar to rotten fruit (fruity breath).

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

1

post-31167","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-job
["GET
