To avoid gas problems, make it a habit to chew your food slowly. Drinking lukewarm water frequently will help ease digestion. Walking for a short distance after meals will help prevent gas from building up in the stomach. Although gas formation in the stomach is a normal physiological process, excessive gas can cause discomfort. The main reasons for this are as follows:

Gas ingestion while eating: Eating too quickly, talking while eating, drinking through a straw, and chewing gum can cause excessive gas (aerophagia).

Foods that are difficult to digest: Foods such as nuts, beans, cabbage, cauliflower, and onions can cause excess gas in some people. Gas is produced when the carbohydrates in these foods are broken down by bacteria in the colon.

Carbonated drinks: The carbon dioxide in soda and soft drinks causes gas to fill the stomach.

Food intolerance: Inability to digest dairy products (Lactose Intolerance) or foods containing gluten such as wheat can cause gas problems.
