The best way to prevent cancer is to follow a healthy lifestyle. By including fruits and vegetables rich in fiber in our diet and giving up alcohol, we can keep this disease at bay to a large extent. If you see any unusual lumps or changes in your body, do not ignore it and get tested early, which can help save lives.
The factors that lead to cancer can be mainly classified into three. What they are is given below:
1. Lifestyle and habits:
Alcohol use: The main cause of fatal diseases including lung cancer is the use of tobacco (smoking and chewing). Excessive alcohol consumption also causes cancer of the liver and throat.
Wrong diet: Consumption of excessive processed meat, foods with artificial colors, and excessive sweets.
Obesity and lack of exercise: Weight gain causes hormonal changes and invites various types of cancer.
2. Environmental factors:
Ultraviolet rays: Excessive exposure to the sun can cause skin cancer.
Pollution: Constant exposure to toxins and chemicals (for example, asbestos and benzene) in the air and water.
Radiation: Excessive exposure to X-rays or other radiation sources.
3. Other causes:
Genetics: In about 5% to 10% of cases, cancer can be caused by genes inherited from previous generations in the family.
Viral infections: Human papillomavirus (HPV) can cause cervical cancer, and hepatitis B and C viruses can cause liver cancer.
Age: As you get older, your risk of cancer increases because the DNA in your cells becomes more susceptible to changes.
