Insulin is a hormone that helps our body’s cells remove sugar (Glucose) from the blood to provide energy. Diabetes occurs when the production of insulin decreases or the body does not use it properly. The 6 main factors that lead to this are:
1. Genetics
If a father or mother in the family has diabetes, then children are more likely to develop it. Heredity plays a big role in type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
2. Obesity and lack of exercise
Less physical activity and accumulation of fat around the stomach cause insulin resistance. This increases blood sugar levels.
3. Wrong diet
Excessive consumption of sweets, flour dishes, fast food and colas increases the risk of diabetes. A diet low in fiber can affect digestion and insulin function.
4. Stress
When there is excessive tension and stress, the hormones produced by the body interfere with the function of insulin and increase the sugar level.
5. Age
Although the risk of diabetes is higher in adults, nowadays diabetes is also being seen in children and young people due to lifestyle changes.
6. Other health problems
Hypertension (high BP), hormonal changes (for example, PCOS in women), and diseases affecting the pancreas can also cause diabetes.
