1. Genetics
If your father, mother, or close relatives have diabetes in the family, you are more likely to inherit it. Our genes play a big role in this.
2. Obesity and lack of exercise
Less physical activity and the accumulation of fat around the stomach cause insulin resistance. When cells are unable to absorb sugar, blood sugar levels rise.
3. Wrong diet
Excessive consumption of flour dishes, sweets, artificial drinks, and fast food puts pressure on the pancreas. Low-fiber foods cause blood sugar to rise quickly.
4. Stress
When there is excessive tension and stress, hormones like ‘cortisol’ are produced in the body. These interfere with the function of insulin and increase the sugar level.
5. Insomnia and lifestyle
Not sleeping at the right time can affect the body’s metabolism. This causes hormonal changes and gradually leads to diabetes.
6. Other health problems
High blood pressure (BP), hormonal changes (for example, PCOS), and changes during pregnancy can lead to diabetes.
Diabetes is a lifestyle disease. Therefore, it can be controlled to some extent through diet and regular exercise. Getting a blood test at least once a year for those over 30 years of age will help detect the disease at an early stage. The important thing is to make a healthy routine along with medications.
