Along with taking medications, these things you can do at home can help loosen phlegm quickly:
1. Steam Inhalation
This is the best remedy for phlegm. Add a little turmeric powder or basil leaves to boiling water and inhale the steam. This will help dissolve the thick phlegm.
2. Gargle with salt water
Gargling your throat with a little salt in lukewarm water will help reduce the swelling in your throat and expel the phlegm. Doing this three times a day is beneficial.
3. Ginger-honey mixture
Ginger has natural antiseptic properties. Taking ginger juice and honey in equal amounts twice a day will help loosen the phlegm and reduce coughing.
4. Turmeric milk
Drink a glass of warm milk before going to bed at night with a little turmeric powder and black pepper powder. This will reduce respiratory tract infections and provide relief from phlegm.
5. Drink plenty of water
Phlegm thickens when the body is dehydrated. Drinking plenty of lukewarm water will help thin the phlegm and expel it easily.
6. Pepper and agarwood
Chewing a mixture of black pepper powder and agarwood in your mouth will help relieve throat discomfort and help expel phlegm quickly.
Things to note:
Avoid smoking completely.
Cold foods and drinks can increase phlegm, so avoid them.
If you have chronic phlegm and have fever and shortness of breath, seek medical advice immediately.
