70 percent of our body is water. But drinking water in the wrong way often causes indigestion and other health problems. The correct methods suggested by Ayurveda and modern science are as follows:

1. Drink water early in the morning on an empty stomach (Ushapan)
Make a habit of drinking one or two glasses of lukewarm water before or after brushing your teeth as soon as you wake up in the morning.

Benefits: This will help cleanse the intestines (Detox), prevent constipation and increase metabolism.

2. Drink water only while sitting
Drinking water while standing will cause the water to enter the stomach quickly. This can be harmful to the digestive system, kidneys and joints.

Correct method: Always drink water while sitting, sipping slowly. This will reduce the risk of joint pain.

3. Avoid water just before and after meals
Drinking water just before or after meals dilutes the digestive juices in the stomach. This can slow down digestion and cause gas problems.

The right way: Drink water 30 minutes before meals or 45 minutes after meals.

4. Avoid ice water and drink lukewarm water
Drinking cold water from the fridge can hinder the digestive process and cause blood vessels to constrict.

The right way: Drink room temperature water or slightly warm water. This will help dissolve fat.

5. Drink only when you feel thirsty
The important thing is to drink water according to the needs of the body. The amount of water may change depending on the physical exertion of each person. You can identify if the body is low in water by looking at the color of your urine (dark yellow is a sign of dehydration).
