Liver Health; Which Alcohol Is More Harmful?

The amount of alcohol in alcohol and the way it is consumed determine the speed of liver damage.

1. Alcohol Content
Beer contains 4-8% alcohol and wine 12-15%, while whiskey and brandy contain up to 40%. The more alcohol, the more work the liver has to do to purify it. Consuming hard liquor directly can cause great damage to liver cells.

2. Is Red Wine Good?

Red wine is said to be good for heart health because it contains an antioxidant called resveratrol. However, the alcohol it contains is still a challenge for the liver.

3. Sugary drinks (Mixers)
Drinking alcohol, soda, or artificially sweetened juices increases the risk of fatty liver. This doubles the workload on the liver.

4. Quantity is more important than drinking
When it comes to the liver, how much you drink is more important than what you drink. Binge drinking does not give the liver time to heal itself.

Things to keep in mind to protect the liver:
Drink plenty of water: Drinking plenty of water while drinking will help flush out toxins from the body.

Don’t drink on an empty stomach: Drinking alcohol with food will slow down the absorption of alcohol into the blood.

Take breaks: Give your liver a rest by completely avoiding alcohol for at least 3-4 days a week.

Note: Even small amounts of alcohol can be fatal for people with liver disease, fatty liver, or hepatitis.
