Psoriasis: How to recognize the symptoms?

Don’t ignore it as a common itch!
Although there are many types of psoriasis, the main symptoms that are commonly seen are:

1. Red spots and silvery scales
The main symptom of psoriasis is the appearance of red, thick patches on the skin with silvery or gray scales on top. This can flake off like the skin is peeling.

2. Unbearable itching and burning
The affected areas may experience severe itching. There is a possibility of bruising and bleeding when scratching. Some people experience a tightening and burning sensation in the skin.

3. Cracks in the skin
Dry skin cracks and bleeds are common in psoriasis patients. If this is on the palms or soles, it can make it difficult to walk or work.

4. Changes in the nails
Psoriasis can affect not only the skin but also the nails. Symptoms include pitting, discoloration, and thickening or loosening of the nails.

5. Psoriatic Arthritis
Some people may experience swelling and pain in the joints along with skin symptoms. This is called psoriatic arthritis. You should be aware of severe stiffness in the joints when you wake up in the morning.

6. Dandruff-like appearance on the scalp
Psoriasis can often be caused by white flakes of dandruff on the scalp. Be especially careful if it spreads to the sides of the forehead and behind the ears.

3 factors that cause psoriasis to worsen:

Mental stress (Stress): Psoriasis symptoms tend to worsen when stress increases.

Weather: Dry skin in the winter can cause the disease to worsen.

Diet: Excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, and red meat can increase symptoms.

Note: Psoriasis is not a contagious disease. It is not transmitted from one person to another. It can be controlled with proper treatment and lifestyle changes.
