The symptoms of cancer can be similar to many other common diseases. However, if the following symptoms persist, it is advisable to seek the advice of a doctor:
1. Unexplained weight loss
A sudden weight loss of 5 kg or more without exercise or dieting can be a sign of cancer in the pancreas, stomach, or lungs.
2. Persistent cough and changes in the throat
A persistent cough or change in the voice (hoarseness) can be a sign of lung cancer or throat cancer. Be careful if it lasts more than two weeks.
3. Changes in the skin
A sudden change in the color, size, or shape of moles on the body can be a sign of skin cancer (melanoma). Also, be careful if the skin becomes very yellow or dark.
4. Severe fatigue
Severe fatigue that does not go away no matter how much rest you have can be caused by the body using up energy as cancer cells grow. This is a major symptom of conditions such as leukemia.
5. Lumps and bumps on the body
New, painless lumps in the breasts, armpits, or other parts of the body should not be ignored. Not all lumps are cancerous, but they should be checked.
6. Changes in bowel habits
Constipation or diarrhea that lasts a long time, or blood in the stool, can be a sign of colon cancer. Similarly, you should be careful if you notice pain or blood when urinating.
7. Chronic pain
Pain that does not go away in any part of the body for no reason can be a sign of bone or brain cancer.
8. Digestive problems and difficulty swallowing
Difficulty swallowing food, chronic indigestion, and heartburn can be symptoms of esophageal or stomach cancer.
9. Slow healing of wounds
If wounds on the body or mouth sores take longer than usual to heal, it should be taken seriously.
10. Unusual bleeding
Coughing up blood, bleeding outside of the menstrual cycle, and blood in the stool can be symptoms of various types of cancer.
Special note:
These symptoms alone cannot confirm that a person has cancer. However, seeing a doctor and getting screened when such changes occur can help save lives.
