Fatty liver is a condition in which excessive fat accumulates in the liver cells due to our wrong lifestyle and diet. If not treated at the right time, it can seriously affect the functioning of the liver. The main reasons for this are:
Obesity and lack of exercise: Uncontrolled weight gain is the main reason for fat accumulation in the liver. When physical activity decreases, the body starts storing fat in the liver instead of converting it into energy.
Consumption of sweets and carbohydrates: Excessively sweetened drinks, bakery products, and foods containing flour increase fat production in the liver. This disrupts metabolic functions.
Insulin resistance and diabetes: People with inaccurate blood sugar levels and insulin resistance are more likely to develop fat in the liver. This is commonly seen in type-2 diabetes patients.
High cholesterol: High levels of triglycerides and bad cholesterol (LDL) in the blood cause fat to accumulate in the liver. This can also lead to blockages in the arteries.
Alcohol and side effects of medications: Excessive alcohol consumption impairs the liver’s ability to function and interferes with the removal of fat. Long-term use of certain medications can also increase fat in the liver.
