Let’s try not to get kidney stones! 5 important things to practice to prevent them

Stones form when salts such as calcium, oxalate, and uric acid accumulate in the urine as crystals. Let’s try to prevent this from happening through a proper diet and lifestyle. The main ways are:

Drink plenty of water: The most important way to prevent kidney stones is to stay hydrated in the body. Drinking at least 2.5 to 3 liters of water daily helps dilute urine and prevent the accumulation of salts.

Reduce salt intake: Excess salt (sodium) in the diet causes more calcium to be excreted through the urine. This calcium can then combine with oxalate to form stones. Avoid packaged foods and salty foods as much as possible.

Make lemon juice a habit: Citrate present in citrus fruits like lemon and orange can help prevent the formation of calcium stones. Drinking a glass of lemon water daily is good for kidney health.

Limit oxalate-rich foods: If you are at risk of developing calcium oxalate stones, eat foods high in oxalate, such as spinach, beets, chocolate, and cashews, in moderation.

Limit meat intake: Red meat and shellfish are high in purines. This increases uric acid and can lead to stone formation. Instead, include plant-based proteins in your diet.
