AIDS Spread: Don’t Be Afraid, Be Aware! 5 Main Reasons Behind the Spread of the Disease

AIDS is a condition in which the virus HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) destroys the body’s immune system. Lack of proper knowledge and carelessness are still the main reasons for the spread of this disease. Here are some of them:

Unsafe Sex: The most important reason for the spread of HIV is unprotected sex. The virus can easily be spread to another person by having sex with someone infected with the virus without following safety standards.

Blood-borne Transmission: The disease can be spread by receiving the blood of an HIV-infected person or by sharing unsterile needles and syringes. Drug users who use the same needles pose a great risk.

From Mother to Child: It is possible for a pregnant mother to pass the virus to her baby during pregnancy, childbirth, or through breast milk. However, this can be prevented with proper treatment (ART).

Ignorance and lack of testing: People who are not aware that they are infected can spread the disease to others without realizing it. Not getting tested increases the spread of the disease, as symptoms can take years to appear.

Not seeking proper treatment: People living with HIV can take the right medications (Anti-Retroviral Therapy) to reduce the amount of virus in their body and prevent transmission to others. Delaying treatment for fear of social exclusion contributes to the spread of the disease.
