Ulcers are sores that form on the lining of the stomach or small intestine. The main symptom is severe pain that occurs before or after eating. The causes are:
H. pylori bacteria: The most common cause of ulcers is the bacterium Helicobacter pylori. It destroys the protective layer of the stomach and causes ulcers due to acid.
Use of painkillers: Regularly taking painkillers (NSAIDs – for example, ibuprofen, aspirin) without a doctor’s prescription can weaken the lining of the stomach and cause ulcers.
Excessive alcohol consumption and smoking: Alcohol increases the production of acid in the stomach and irritates the stomach lining. Smoking slows down the healing of ulcers and worsens the condition.
Stress: Although stress does not directly cause ulcers, it can aggravate existing ulcers and increase pain. Stress increases the production of acid in the body, which contributes to this.
Unhealthy diet: Excessively spicy, acidic, and acidic foods can irritate the stomach lining. Not eating at the right time can directly affect the stomach lining and cause ulcers.
