Acidity is a condition in which the glands in the stomach produce excess acid for digestion. This causes heartburn and stomach pain. The main causes are:
Dietary errors: Eating too much spicy, sour, and spicy foods can increase the production of acid in the stomach. Fried, fried foods, and fast food are also major causes of acidity.
Irregular meals: Not eating on time upsets the balance of stomach acid. The acid produced when the stomach is empty for a long time irritates the stomach walls and causes acidity.
Eating right before bed: Lying down immediately after eating at night can cause acid to come back up into the esophagus (food pipe) (Acid Reflux). It is advisable to eat at least 2-3 hours before going to bed.
Excessive consumption of beverages: Excessive consumption of tea, coffee, and carbonated beverages (soda, soft drinks) increases the acid level in the stomach. Caffeinated beverages can irritate the digestive system.
Mental stress and lack of sleep: When there is severe stress, the body tends to produce more acid. Also, not getting enough sleep slows down the digestive process and leads to acidity.
