Joint pain is pain and discomfort in the joints of the body. The causes behind this problem, which is found in both the elderly and the young, are as follows:
Arthritis: The most important cause of joint pain is rheumatic diseases. Osteoarthritis (wear and tear on the joints) and rheumatoid arthritis (the immune system affects the joints) cause severe pain and swelling in the joints.
Increased uric acid (Gout): When uric acid increases in the blood, it accumulates in the joints (especially in the toes) in the form of crystals. This causes sudden unbearable pain and swelling.
Malnutrition: Deficiency of calcium and vitamin D, which are necessary for the health of bones and joints, can lead to joint pain. This causes bones to become weak (Osteoporosis) and joints to become weak.
Infections: Severe joint pain can occur after viral infections such as chikungunya and dengue fever. This can last for months. Joint infections such as septic arthritis can also cause pain.
Obesity and injuries: When you are overweight, your joints in the hips, knees, and spine experience excessive stress and wear and tear. Also, previous falls or injuries can later turn into chronic joint pain.
