Dark spots that ruin the brightness of the face are a problem that bothers many people today. From sun exposure to hormonal changes, this can be caused by:
Sun Exposure: The most important cause of dark spots is UV rays in sunlight. When the skin is exposed to excessive sunlight, it produces more melanin, a pigment, to protect itself. This turns into dark spots on the skin (Sun spots).
Acne and scars: When acne dries up, dark spots are often left on the skin (Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation). Picking and popping acne can cause the scars to deepen.
Hormonal changes: Changes in hormonal levels during pregnancy or when using birth control pills can cause a condition called ‘Melasma’. This causes large dark spots on the cheeks and forehead.
Side effects of medications: Certain medications (such as cytotoxic drugs) can make the skin more sensitive to sunlight and cause spots.
Aging: As we age, the rate of skin cell renewal slows down. This causes the formation of ‘age spots’ on various parts of the skin.
