We usually call it a ‘blockage’ when fat and other substances accumulate in the arteries that carry blood to the heart, blocking blood flow. This can lead to serious conditions like a heart attack. The main causes are:
Plaque Formation: Bad cholesterol (LDL) in the blood accumulates on the inner walls of the arteries. This thickens over time and narrows the blood vessels.
Uncontrolled diabetes: High blood sugar levels weaken the walls of the blood vessels and cause inflammation. This causes fat to accumulate quickly.
High blood pressure (Hypertension): When BP increases, blood flows through the arteries at an excessive speed. This causes the arteries to lose their elasticity and causes lesions, where fat can easily get stuck.
Smoking: The nicotine in tobacco constricts blood vessels and reduces oxygen levels. This increases the risk of blood clotting and blockages.
Trans fats and junk food: Trans fats, found in fried foods and bakery products, play a major role in clogging blood vessels.
