Is forgetfulness the culprit? Here are the main reasons for memory loss

The brain needs regular exercise and rest to improve memory. Reading, solving puzzles, and learning new things can help keep the brain active. Drinking plenty of water and including leafy greens and nuts in your diet can improve memory. If you experience chronic forgetfulness and confusion, you should see a doctor and seek expert advice.

Many factors that affect the functioning of our brain can cause memory loss:

Insomnia: Brain cells collect and update information during sleep. Not getting enough sleep can impair our ability to focus and remember things.

Excessive mental stress (Stress & Anxiety): When stress increases, the hormone ‘cortisol’ produced in the body can adversely affect the ‘Hippocampus’, the part of the brain that stores memories.

Depression: It is common for people suffering from depression to have a decreased ability to understand things and experience forgetfulness.

Thyroid problems: Hypothyroidism can slow down thinking and cause forgetfulness.

Multi-tasking: When you try to focus on more than one thing at a time, your brain can’t process information properly. This can lead to forgetting things quickly.

Substance abuse: Excessive alcohol and smoking reduce blood flow to the brain and damage cells.
